Mini Tech project reflection
For my mini tech project, my group did Jeff’s original monologue. It was about a person calling his friend to ask if they could go out and ride skateboards together. It is a comedy that we adapted because originally, there was only one person in the scene. We incorporated two other people to make it more of a scene. There was Jeff as the main character(who was calling), Jordan as the friend of the main character, and me as the sister who keeps picking up the phone.
My part as the sister was originally going to be the mother, but we changed it. We did this because as we practiced, we realized that the attitude of the character didn’t fit a “mother” persona, but more as an annoyed sister. I felt this made the whole scene even better. To do this, I had to really channel the annoyed younger sister part of myself, because I do have a couple brothers(that annoy me very often). My job was to walk between out of frame and in the frame, and one thing I had to make was not to rush this, or speak too fast on the phone. When we were practicing I had a little trouble memorizing when I had to come in, and walk in and out of frame. To help with this, I left my script out of frame so I could look at it as I waited to come in; this helped a lot. I also worked on projecting my voice so that it looked like I was yelling to another character in another room, and also so that people could hear me. Watching the video, I think it does look like I was yelling to someone out of frame, but I need to work on volume so the audience can hear me better.
As a group, one challenge was working together to try to get the scripts and new characters. We had to collaborate on this because the monologue was originally one person, but we had to come up with all the dialogue of the other new characters that we added to the scene. One challenge as a group would be trying to get the memorizing right. We made a lot of mistakes when practicing, but we got it together for the final. Another weakness would be figuring out how to film it. We had a disagreement on how to film the scene since they were both talking on a phone, but we figured it out. I do think we did well with the acting and making it sound natural, like actually talking on a phone.
Overall, I think all the other groups did really well. For Pacific’s group, I really like how they utilized an umbrella as a prop. I know they used a rain sound video from YouTube because I watched them film, but I couldn’t seem to hear it in the video. I also like how the light faded out at the end of the scene.
For Mau’s scene, I really loved the emotion in their video. You could really feel what the character did. I also love how they used live music- It made it so good!
