Uta Hagen 9 Question Exercises


  1. My character is a female. She’s around average height. She has black wavy hair. She’s in high school, and she’s around 16-17 years old. She has a small family, but they’re not really close. She’s afraid about how her friends think of her.

  1. It’s around present time(2018), and it’s winter. Time is really significant because the time of day and the year impacts what people are doing at the moment, and how people act in that certain time period.

  1. My character lives in America in a suburb. The “scene” takes place in her room. It is a smaller room.

  1. My character is in her room. She has a bed in her room, and she has a mirror also in her room. .

  1. She has just gone through a break down recently, and she’s cut herself off from her friends. In the scene, she’s just in her room thinking about what has happened to her, then and before. It can be interpreted from the lyrics that she went through a tough breakup in the past. She is sure in the end that she will get through it, though.

  1. My character has a small family, but they barely talk. She did have a past relationship, but that didn’t work out for her, and that’s partly the reason why she’s so upset in the scene.

  1. The character wants to feel better immediately, and overall she wants to hangout with her friends again.

  1. My character is a person who’s been through a lot. They used to have a lot of self doubt, but now their ready to try and get better.

  1. She talks herself into working to get better, and that she will. She encourages herself in her mirror to make changes in her life, and all the good things that will come if she does.

Final Blog Post

I think I grew a lot in my confidence since the start of this semester. In the beginning, I was kinda shy and wasn’t that fond of preforming in front of people. But now, I gained a lot of preforming confidence and am ablw to act or direct without being a little hesitant. I think this is partly because I made friends with the people in our class and felt more comfortable around them. I also think it’s because I grew as an actor and a director and I learned more about those topics and what goes into them. Though this class, I learned that I liked to direct. The first thing I directed was “the Office” scene parody. At first when people chose for me to direct this scene, I was a little hesitant because I’ve never directed before. But I soon realized I really liked it because I like writing the stories, and I like to put scenes together and help actors understand the vision. Reflection of "The Classroom" Scene

I think that one of our group's strengths was our use of props. We used pencils, paper, a notebook(for Lily's sign), and some of us even used our own shoes(Jordan). Even though they are small, these props, I think, helped to set the scene well. The pencils and paper helped the scene to have a classroom-type vibe. Also, Hannah used one of the pencils to break it and throw it, which I think contributed to the comedy theme and her character's personality. Lily's sign and Jordan using his shoes really just made the scene a lot more funny. I also think they all did a really great job of improvising. I think this because an example is how Jordan used his shoes, and Hannah broke the pencil. They both improvised this, and by doing that, they made it seem a little more natural. Silent Movie First Draft Reveiw

Strengths and weaknesses One strength would be the `colors of the scene. It makes it more dramatic and sad looking. Another strength would be our storyline and plot, which we think are clear for the audience. One weakness of us might be that some of our scenes are a bit confusing. However, we have been figuring that out. We are thinking we could re-do a couple of scenes to make it less confusing, and zooming in on pictures closer so people can see them.
